The left tree is the plain one before any effects were applied.
The tree to the right has a bevel and drop shadow applied.
I filled the star with a gradient before applying the bevel.

I had kind of thought I'd like to try making a body for Santa,
but I am running out of time and need to get this posted,
so I can do other things this weekend.
